Kasarian Dane Painting Included In Syracuse's Everson Museum Exhibition
A painting by Assistant Professor of Fine Arts Kasarian Dane is included in the exhibition "The Object and Beyond: 2008 Everson Biennial" at the Everson Museum of Art in Syracuse. More than 266 artists residing in the Central New York region submitted more than 1,000 works for consideration by exhibition juror Edward Winkleman, an independent curator and director of Winkleman Gallery in Chelsea, New York, who specializes in contemporary art. He selected works by 55 artists for the exhibition, opening June 13 and occupying all four galleries on the second floor of the museum.

NCPR Takes Top Honors At NY AP Awards
North Country Public Radio (NCPR) took top honors in the New York State Associated Press Broadcasters Awards Competition, announced June 7. The station, hosted at St. Lawrence, was honored with eight first-place awards, two special mentions and The Steve Flanders Grand Prize, given to one radio station that exemplifies the best traditions of journalistic initiative and dedication in providing a complete news service to the listening public. NCPR, celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, was chosen for the AP's Grand Prize over all radio stations in New York, regardless of commercial or public status or market size.

Brad Baldwin Awarded Grant For River Study
Associate Professor of Biology Brad Baldwin has been awarded a grant by the St. Lawrence River Research and Education Fund (SLRREF), which the New York Power Authority (NYPA) established as part of its relicensing of the St. Lawrence-Franklin D. Roosevelt Power Project in 2003. The grant to Baldwin, for $18,942, was one of four awarded to projects "that will contribute to appreciation and understanding of the St. Lawrence River ecosystem," according to the authority.

Theatre Students Assist Local Elementary School

SLU Participates In Project To Improve Depression Screening
Fifteen percent of college students suffered from depression last year, up from 10 percent in 2000, according to The American College Health Association. Mental health professionals on college campuses expect the percentage to rise again this year, but St. Lawrence University is addressing the problem by participating in a national pilot project to improve screening and care for students with depression.

English Honorary Inducts New Members
Eleven students were inducted into the Irving Bacheller Society, the University's Sigma Tau Delta chapter of the International English Honor Society, in spring 2007. The honorary takes its name from a member of the St. Lawrence University Class of 1882, the popular journalist and author of Eben Holden, the first "best-seller" of the 20th century.

Second Book By Paul Fideler '58 Published
Paul A. Fideler '58 recently had his second book published, Social Welfare in Pre-Industrial England: The Old Poor Law Tradition (Palgrave Macmillan, 2006). The volume crosses period boundaries that often isolate late medieval, early modern and 18th-century historiographies from one another.

Sean Murphy '91 Among 'Fab 50' Litigators
The American Lawyer has named Sean M. Lorien Eck M'06 Earns National Honor

Doreen M. Tobin '74, MEd '75, interim vice president for student affairs at East Stroudsburg University, has received the Ted K. Miller Achievement of Excellence Award from the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS). A new exhibition, "Corridor of Time: Cretaceous and Paleocene Prehistoric Life," at the Heritage Center, the state museum in Bismarck, North Dakota, includes includes fossil discoveries by Chapin Professor of Geology J.
