SLU Hosting Talk On Modern Thai Buddhism
A talk titled "The Patron Saint of Bangkok: Magic, Mantras and Talismans in Modern Thai Buddhism" will be given by Justin McDaniel, associate professor of religious studies at the University of Pennsylvania, at St. Lawrence University on Tuesday, March 16, at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of Hepburn Hall. SLU Film Series Focuses On Climate Change
A series of films that address issues related to climate change will be shown at St. Lawrence University, as part of a semester-long project that will include the creation of a quilt to raise awareness about the topic. All of the screenings are open to the public, free of charge. Films will be shown on Tuesdays in the Winston Room of the Sullivan Student Center; all screenings begin at 7 p.m. and will be followed by informal discussions.

SLU's Own DIY Network: Students Build Computers For Lab
When Associate Professor of Mathematics, Computer Science and Statistics Ed Harcourt said he wanted his computer science students to "get their feet wet and their hands dirty," he wasn't kidding. The dozen students in the fall 2009 course High-Performance Linux Computing Systems, co-taught with Assistant Professor Richard Sharp, built 55 computers for three labs, from scratch, motherboards to monitors.

Winners Of Math Jeopardy For $500, Alex!
St. Lawrence University's Math Jeopardy team took first place in a competition held February 19, as part of a two-day mathematics symposium held at Clarkson University. The team beat competitors from Clarkson, SUNY Potsdam, Nazareth College, St. John Fisher College and SUNY Brockport at the event.

Prof. Chiarenzelli Presenting Series Of Talks
Associate Professor of Geology Jeffrey Chiarenzelli '81 gave the Science Today lecture at SUNY Oswego February 3, on environmental forensics and possible methods of restoration on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska, primarily with regard to persistent organic pollutants and biogenic hydrocarbons, such as crude oil and various other forms of petroleum spills.

Psychology Honor Society Inducts 18 Students
Psi Chi, the psychology honor society, inducted 18 new members recently. To be eligible for membership, students must have an overall average of at least 3.3; a psychology average of at least 3.4 (based on a minimum of four psychology courses completed at St. Lawrence) and be in the top 35 percent of their class.
